Flying over outback Queensland in the winter, our Birdsville & Big Red Experience touches down at the regional airports of Toowoomba, Charleville, Quilpie, Windora and Birdsville.
Birdsville is our outback home for the night, with sunset drinks on Big Red – one of the largest sand dunes in Australia – and staying overnight at the iconic Birdsville Hotel and it is so spectacular … we do it all again the next day!
This Birdsville & Big Red Experience Tour is designed for you to see our amazing Queensland from above. The Channel Country will be picture-perfect, with an awe-inspiring artists’ palate of colours and formations. Birdsville & Big Red Experience Tour #2 Itinerary
Day 1
Departing the Sunshine Coast mid-morning there is time out at the DFO for some lunch & shopping before booking in at the Ibis Brisbane Airport. After a relaxing dinner we head to our rooms with a view for a restful night to be ready for an early morning breakfast.
Day 2
7.00am – the bus departs to the airport to check-in for our breathtaking flight over outback Queensland. Stopping at five regional airports, we watch the changing landscape from a birds-eye view. At 14,000ft you can really see the vast expanses and changing landscapes.
The Channel Country is an artist’s palette of colour and formations … you will see the channels, lakes and rivers that make up this unique country.
Arriving in Birdsville mid-afternoon, we head for the Pub to find our room before departing on a four-wheel drive bus adventure out to the famous Big Red… the largest sand dune in the Simpson Dessert.
Here you will experience the grandeur & colours of Big Red, while enjoying spectacular sunset drinks! The night sky will be something to behold when we travel back to the Pub for dinner.
Day 3
There is time to look around the town after breakfast before we fly out of Birdsville. Winter in the desert is one of the best times to visit. This is a unique opportunity to see the wide open spaces of the Australian outback, and we are lucky enough to see it all a second time as we return home.
